How to Use This Scaffold

1

Pick Your Form Type

2

Add Household Members

Click Add Person for each member. Enter their name, date of birth, Social Security number, and any other IDs you use on forms. Include children, spouses, and anyone else who appears on your filings. Use the Notes field for special situations like shared custody or a legal name change.

3

Fill In Addresses & Accounts

Add your current address, any recent moves, and your mailing address if it is different. Then enter account numbers like your bank routing number for direct deposit or last year's tax figures. These are the details people forget most often.

4

Print and Store

Hit Print Scaffold to get a clean, formatted page. Store it somewhere safe and easy to reach. A fireproof document bag works well. When a new filing season starts, come back, update what changed, and print a fresh copy.

Common Mistakes

  • Forgetting secondary IDs. Many forms ask for a second form of identification. Add your driver's license, state ID, or military ID to the scaffold so you have it ready.
  • Using an old address. If you moved in the last two years, some forms want your prior address. Keep it in the scaffold so you do not have to search old mail.
  • Missing dependent details. Tax forms need each dependent's full name, Social Security number, and relationship. Add every dependent as a household member.
  • Wrong bank info. A mistyped routing number can delay your refund by weeks. Double-check it against a voided check or your bank's website.
  • Not updating yearly. Income, addresses, and family status change. Set a reminder to review the scaffold before each filing season.

Blended & Shared Households

If you share custody, have a blended family, or someone in your household files separately, use the Notes field on each member to write down who claims whom, which forms they appear on, and any court order details. This prevents arguments at tax time.

Document Retention

Keep your printed scaffold in a secure spot with your other important papers. A fireproof bag or locked file cabinet works well. The IRS can ask for records up to seven years back, so do not throw away old scaffolds right away. Mark each one with the tax year or application date.

Security Note

This page stores everything in your browser only. Nothing is sent over the internet. But anyone with access to your unlocked device can see it. If you share a computer, consider exporting the data to a file on an encrypted drive and clearing the browser storage when you are done.

Questions People Ask

What form types are supported?

Presets are included for tax filings (1040), passport renewals (DS-82), voter registration, SNAP benefits, and a general catch-all. Each preset highlights the fields most commonly needed for that form. You can also use the general preset and fill in everything.

Can I share my scaffold with a spouse or family member?

Yes. Click the Share Link button to copy a URL with your data encoded in it. Send that link to the other person and they can open it to see and edit the same scaffold. The data travels in the URL, not on a server.

What if I have a blended household or shared custody?

Add every person who might appear on a form. Use the Notes field on each member to indicate custody arrangements, which forms they appear on, or any special instructions. The scaffold will include everyone you add.

How do I update my info for a new filing season?

Open the page, make your changes, and print a new scaffold. Your previous entries are saved in your browser. Just change the fields that are different this year and hit print again.

Is it safe to store this information in my browser?

Your data never leaves your device. It is stored in localStorage, which only your browser can read. However, anyone with access to your unlocked computer could see it. If you are concerned, use the Export button to save a file you can keep on an encrypted drive, and clear the browser data when you are done.

Why does the passport preset ask for place of birth?

Passport forms (DS-82 and DS-11) require your city and state of birth. If you were born abroad, they want the country instead. Having this on your scaffold means you do not have to call your parents or dig through a birth certificate at the last minute.
